Paradigm Shift: Research and market trend

[1G] Centralized computing : i.e. mainframe and dumb terminals
[2G] Distributed computing (Client-server computing) : e.g. traditional WWW, P2P
[3G] Mobile computing (VS. Stationary computings 1G & 2G) : i.e. local standalone mobile applications (iPhone/iPad/Android app., Andriod-platform tablets, Windows7-platform tablets e.g. Acer ICONIA, Windows Phone 7 e.g. ASUS E600, etc.), client-server mobile applications
[4G] Pervasive computing : aka. Ubiquitous computing = 1G + 2G + 3G + Embedded computing e.g. NFC (Near Field Communication), RFID
[5G] Cloud computing (VS. On-premise computings 1G & 2G & 3G) : e.g. Amazon Web Services, MS Azure, Google AppEngine, Apple's iCloudsocial network is also Cloud application; another cloud service is AMD Fusion Render Cloud, a super GPU service for online game rendering; convergence phenomenon with Social computing and Volunteer computing (SETI@home) is Social cloud computing; social commerce (groupon, living social, facebook deals) is also cloud service.
[6G] Mobile Cloud computing (VS. Thick/Thin-client cloud computing) e.g. Web-OS tablets (HP's Topaz & Opal), location-based service (Foursquare, Koprol), Apple's iOS5
[7G] Pervasive Cloud computing : = 4G + 5G
[8G] BioPervasive computing : 7G extended into inside the humans' bodies
